The Summer 2022 line-up is slowly beginning to take shape and Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth has announced its release in the upcoming anime season! Utawarerumono is not a manga-inspired series but a video-game inspired series which has led to a multimedia franchise inclusive of manga, a drama CD and now an anime adaptation!
There have been anime adaptations for the Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth series before, as the gaming franchise has existed since 2002. The last anime adaptation in the franchise was released in 2015 and now Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth anime is going to be released this year!

What is Utawarerumono About?
A mysterious masked man faints in the forest near a small village. He is helped up by two young girls and their grandmother. Not only can he recall nothing of his past, but his mask also seems to be stuck to him. The village elder decides to help him too and grants him a new name – Hakuoro. He becomes a part of the family that saved him and promises to be of service to the village.
He soon realizes that a sleazy landowner wants to claim the village and thus Hakuoro leads a rebellion of the people that succeeds and makes him a folk hero. Hakuoro is given the country’s thrown along with the name Oshkor, taken from the family that chose to save him. As the struggles of rulers go, Hakuolo is tasked with protecting his land and fighting many bloody battles to maintain peace and protect the people he has promised.
The action fantasy story is set in a world that resembles Earth in the distant future. The creatures and land hold magic, which seems to be a rather common occurrence. Even as the land is fantastical, it transcends into science fiction themes as well.
Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth – Is This The End?
The events of Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth take place after the Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception. The world has broken out in a civil war as the throne of the Yamato Empire has been taken over by the usurper who now rules the land ruthlessly. The civil war forces all to take sides and split from their loved ones. A band of fighters who want to stand up against the usurper face the might of the Imperial Army that now remains at the King’s disposal.
The civil war reaches far and forces other nations and armies to pick sides as well. The beginning of the end seems to be at hand and then it’s only a matter of time before everyone is put on trial.
The official posters, key visuals and preview videos for the upcoming anime have been released! Suara is performing the opening theme titled ‘Hito Nanda’ (A Man) and the ending theme titled ‘Hyakunishisou’.
When Will Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth Release?
Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth has announced a Summer 2022 release and has specified a July 2022 release. The anime will have 28 episodes and the first two episodes will premiere together. A specific date is yet to be announced but the anime is slowly pouring out details about the release. While sharing key visual of the anime, the tweet said

Where Can I Watch Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth?
Crunchyroll will be streaming the Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth outside Asia. The TV networks that will be broadcasting the anime have been announced to be TOKYO MX, BS11 and others. The airing time slots are awaited. As of now, it is confirmed that all 28 episodes will be released without a split cour in the picture. As Crunchyroll has licensed the series, the anime will only be released on this streaming platform.

A. The first Utawarerumono game was released in 2002 on Microsoft Windows and then for PlayStation 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita and PlayStation Portable. The console re-release in 2006 is similar to the version that was released for PlayStation 4 and differs from the original release in a bunch of ways. The first game is titled Utawarerumono: Prelude to the Fallen.
