The best English Dubbed Anime of all time!

Even though most anime fans tend to watch the subbed version of anime, there are some titles that qualify as the best English dubbed anime. They have become memorable and perhaps even better than the original. There are many like us who absolutely love watching anime but sadly miss too much of the actual animation with the subbed productions.

Crunchyroll and Funimation are among the most popular platforms for releasing anime English dubs. The dubbed versions of anime series usually release following the end of the subbed series or in some cases, release simultaneously with the subbed version.

Unfortunately, there are many incomplete lists of recommendations online but are unable to give the best English dubbed anime. Here I am trying to put forward a list of some of the best English dubbed anime on the basis of personal experience.

The best new dubbed anime 2021 was not only ‘not horrible’ but also left a lasting impression on the viewers and became just as popular as the subbed versions. The list is not ranked in order but nonetheless, these are definitely the dubbed versions of anime you should look out for!

1. Cowboy Bebop

It’s natural to start the Best English Dubs Ever list with Cowboy Bebop as this probably tops the list. A space science-fiction blended with western and noir genres, Cowboy Bebop has undoubtedly been the recipient of critical acclaim since its release in 1997.

The story for the anime is set in 2071 with the existence of interspace travel and focuses on bounty hunters, who receive legal contracts for criminals. One such spaceship called Bebop, Spike Spiegel, and Jet Black travel the galaxy and run into trouble as they chase criminals for bounty and encounter formidable enemies.

The series has a rating of 8.8/10 on My Anime List, 8.9/10 on Crunchyroll and a whopping 100% on Rotten Tomatoes! With just 26 episodes this needs to slide into your watch list.

2. Baccano!

Baccano! has somewhat of a conflicted viewership. While some say it is absolutely spectacular, others say it isn’t much of a watch. The series is based on a light novel series by Ryogo Narita and received an anime adaptation in 2007. The English dub for the series is done by Funimation.

The title essentially is Italian for “Ruckus” and well, the anime is a blend of so much that its hard to believe. The show opens in Chicago in the 1930s with things getting tense in the mafia, The train Flying Pussyfoot leaving blood throughout the city and some obscure presence of alchemic discoveries 200 years before that. Baccano is a blend of suspense, comedy, romance and a lot more!

The source material for the series is an award-winning novel series and the anime adaptation has a rating of 8.4/10 on My Anime List and 8.3/10 on IMDb. It is regarded as one of the best English dubs and with 16 episodes, it’s a short but packed joyride!

3. Fairy Tail

With the popularity of Fairy Tail in the 2010s, it is believable that Fairy Tail’s Dub was made on the list of one of the Best English Dubs to date. The manga series by Hiro Mashima began its run in 2006, ending in 2017 with 61 volumes! The anime adaptation for the series ended its run in 2019, spanning over 300 episodes.

The story narrates the lives of the mages of the Fairy Tail Guild in Magnolia, the intricacies of their adventures with magic and powerful enemies that threaten peace and the family of the Fairy Tail Guild. Some of the most prominent characters in the series are Natsu, Lucy, Erza, Gray and Wendy.

The series has a rating of 7.6/10 on IMDb as well as My Anime List. While the subbed version is usually given preference, the English Dub for Fairy Tail was a pleasant surprise! It is definitely one of the best English Dubs for anime out there.

4. Yu Yu Hakusho

Last time we gave you a lot of reasons why Yu Yu Hakusho is anime you must watch. Now, we’re adding to that list. Not only does the anime have the perfect recipe for a shonen anime with thrilling story arcs and characters, but the series also has an amazing English dub, that will leave you conflicted in the dub vs subs war (sub wins but still).

Yusuke Urameshi is a 14-year old delinquent who winds up dead trying to save a child. What happens when the series begins with a dead protagonist? After training as a spirit detective, Yusuke is joined by Kuwabara, Kurama Hiei, Botan and Master Genkai and must fulfil his mission to fight the evil forces that threaten the destruction of the world.

The world of Yu Yu Hakusho is riddled with monsters and superpowers and makes a blueprint for famous Shounen anime, also making it to our Top 10 anime list. The series has a rating of 8.4/10 on IMDb and 8.4/10 on My Anime List. Yu Yu Hakusho makes a longer series with 112 episodes divided into 5 seasons on Netflix. Does it work well in the dubbed version? It makes one of the best English Dubs Ever! the voice acting for the English version is not sloppy at all, and manages to retain the personality and quirks of the characters really well!

5. Dragon Ball Z

Dragon Ball Z is a childhood favorite for most anime watchers. No one needs to tell you what DBZ is about. If you’ve watched the show, you know why it makes the list of the best English dubs for anime series.

While the Japanese dub remains legendary, the best English Dubbed anime is not far behind. If you remember the Freeza arc on Namek, the voice actor for the characters managed to deliver exactly what they were looking for. The English Dub for Dragon Ball Z also makes it to the Best English Dubs List as it was mostly aired with the English Version on CN in the early 2000s. Nostalgia is strong with this one!

6. Hellsing

If the music of Hellsing is not ringing in your ears while reading this, you need some refreshing. Hellsing (OVA) was released in 2006, completely adapting the contents of the manga. While the horror of Hellsing is timeless, the English Dub for the series has managed to immortalize itself with memorable and powerful dialogues.

The story revolves around the Royal order of Protestant Knights. Hellsing by itself aims to exterminate and control growth of all supernatural evil like vampires who threaten the lives of innocents. Alucard is the most powerful vampire in existence. he joins the extermination forces as the plot complicates with an army of evil and the involvement of the Nazis.

The series has a rating of 8.3/10 on IMDb and 8.4/10 on My Anime List. With just 13 episodes, this still makes of the best English Dubbed Anime.

7. Code Geass

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion has an English Dub that is on par with the Subbed version or perhaps better. That should qualify as one of the best English dubbed anime, right? The popularity of Code Geass in the mecha genre was no joke. The series aired its anime adaptation in 2006. Even with just two seasons and a total of 50 episodes, Code Geass is one of the best releases of the 2000s.

Code Geass is a political mecha anime set in a world divided into Europe, Asia and the Americas (also called the Britannian Empire). It is difficult to place Lelouch as a hero or villain, Lelouch is out for revenge and it seems that fate has it planned the harder way for him.

The series has a rating of 8.7/10 on IMDb as well as My Anime List!

8. Hetalia

Hetalia is one of the light-hearted anime you cannot miss. Another reason may be its English dub which has gained approval from viewers and its fanbase. The manga series by Hidekaz Himaruya is a blend of history and comedy and basically translates to ‘Uncool Italy’.

The series focuses on the personifications of the countries in the Axis Powers and the Allied Nations in the pretext of World War II. Despite having the theme of war, the interactions among the characters mostly end in hilarity and uses satire and historical context for laughs.

The series has a rating of 7.4/10 on IMDb and 7.3 on My Anime List.

9. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

Nothing can ever go wrong with Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, not even dubs. The series already has an outstanding review and we have told you all the reasons why this must be on your watch list if you haven’t seen it already.

The story revolves around The Elric Brothers as they try to find a way to get their bodies back to the way they were. As a State Alchemist and a dog of the military, Edward finds allies as well as formidable enemies as a conspiracy brews underneath that surpasses anyone’s imagination.

With 64 episodes, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood goes to the depth of questions in human existence, science, religion, morality, life, love and death. A complete package. A masterpiece. Fullmetal Alchemist is rated 9.2/10 on My Anime List, 9.1/10 on IMDb and 100% on Rotten Tomatoes!

10. Samurai Champloo

With one of the best soundtracks in place, Samurai Champloo also delivered one of the best English Dubbed Anime. The anime series originally aired in 2004 on Fuji Television. This series with just 26 episodes packs a delightful surprise with its hip-hop setting and character tones.

The story revolves around Mugen, Jin and Fuu and an obscure quest to find a samurai who smells like sunflowers. The anime is notable because of its art and music style, setting it apart from most anime series that have been popularized. The amazing English Dub only adds to its credits.

The series has a rating of 8.5 on IMDb as well as My Anime List!
