The Lord of the Rings series at Amazon officially has a premiere date and first look image

J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings is no stranger to any of us. Amazon had announced that there is a Lord of the Rings series that is under development and will be released sometime in 2022.

The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R Tolkien is perhaps the parent of modern fantasy as we know it. The film trilogy of the 2000s still remains well known among the fans, often said that the novels and the movies both live up to the hype. The trilogy, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King was released from 2001 to 2003. The films are rated 8.8/10, 8.7/10 and 8.9/10 respectively on IMDb.

The setting of the story is in the fantastical world of Middle Earth in which different races of humans, hobbits, elves, dwarves, orcs and many more. The Second Age of Middle Earth was relatively peaceful, dreading the re-emergence of evil and darkness. The same age saw the Forge of the Ring of Power, ‘One Ring to Rule Them All’ which gave Sauron the power to begin the reign of darkness.

The preview release is only a snippet but there are a few things one can infer from it. There are discrepancies on whether the show is set in the first age of Middle Earth or the Second. Assuming it is the second, the original source material for the Lord of the Rings Series will still be relevant to place the upcoming storyline.

The Ring of Power was forged in the Second Age. The trees at the Horizon may be a part of the Undying Lands in the Continent of Aman. The figure in front may be an Elven entity that some fans speculate maybe Galadriel. The Second Age of Middle Earth lasts over 3000 years! It is likely that the entire narrative of the series will only span through the second age. Amazon purchased the rights to The Lord of the Rings for a whopping $250 million! The result of this mega buy will only be known post-production.
