Would anyone believe that Bleach would be returning years after the manga originally wrapped up? Not only is the Bleach manga returning for a special release for its 20th Anniversary commemoration, but Bleach Season 17 is also on the cards and is rumoured to be returning in 2021! For Bleach fans, this year just could not get any better.
Bleach is returning after 9 years! Based on the manga by Tite Kubo, the anime first aired in 2006 and ended after a whopping 366 episodes in 2012. The manga series was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from 2001 to 2016. With 72 complete volumes in existence, the series has sold over 120 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling manga series of all time. The anime has a rating of 7.8/10 on My Anime List.
The Bleach anime ended after the Xcution arc and left viewers with a cliffhanger and quite a painful one at that. The manga continued will into 2016 and finally ended after a time-skip. Bleach was known as one of the big names of Shonen manga along with the likes of Naruto and One Piece.
20th Anniversary Bleach Manga One-Shot
Much like Fullmetal Alchemist, Bleach is also celebrating 20 years since its beginning this year. Fullmetal Alchemist had a 20th Anniversary commemoration event in early July and announced thrilling new projects that fans could not hype enough for!
The Bleach manga return will be releasing a special one-shot release in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump. Reportedly, this release will be a part of Shonen Jump’s 36th and 37th combined issue! Dr Stone, which had gone on a month-long break, will also be returning in the same issue! The one-shot will be a 73-page release as confirmed by Shonen Jump.
As exciting as the news of the one-shot release is, there are no details available about the return of the Bleach Manga. The characters, story, setting and timeline are all a mystery at this point. The original Bleach manga ended with a 10-year time skip and introduced several new characters, including the children of some of the characters we have known for ages!
