Demon Slayer Season 2 gets October release! 2 Cours spread over 25 Episodes

Demon Slayer Season 2 is finally here after a 2-year wait. The popular manga series by Koyoharu Gotouge was serialized in The Weekly Shonen Jump and recently came to a close in 2020. Even as the manga has ended, the anime has only announced its much-awaited Kimetsu No Yaiba Season 2.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba has an ongoing anime series with the first season containing 26 episodes originally released in 2019. After being declared a massive success, a movie for Demon Slayer was released in 2020 covering the Mugen Train arc of the story. Demon Slayer also has an anticipated video game release scheduled for 2021.

Demon Slayer Season Trailer and Poster: Slayers of Demons Are Coming

In mid of July, a new Demon Slayer 2 teaser trailer along with a poster got released officially raising the heat. The teaser has its settings in a typical Japanese furnished house with classic music in the background. The protagonists of Demon Slayer Season 2 arrive at the very end of the trailer with artwork and very few animations.

A new visual was also released showing Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu and Inosuke at the bottom. Lot of space is given to two characters who will be nothing short of central to this narrative arc.

What is Kimetsu No Yaiba About?

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba follows the journey of Tanjiro Kamado set in the Taisho era of Japan. In the world of Demon Slayer, a war has broken out between humans and demons. On a bloodied battlefield and with no home to return to, Tanjiro sets out on a mission to avenge his sister, Nezuko, who has been turned into a demon. Tanjiro and Nezuko’s parents are slaughtered mercilessly by demons in their home.

The siblings begin a quest to lift Nezuko’s curse and stumble upon the Demon Slayer Corps. This organization is dedicated to fighting and killing demons and freeing society from their terror. Nezuko, though a demon, retains her capacity for emotion and kindness and is very protective of her brother and companions. Tanjiro dedicates himself to avenging his family and helping his sister to become human again.

Kimetsu No Yaiba Season 2 Entertainment District Official Trailer

Demon Slayer 2 trailer dub in English has not been released yet. However, a teaser was streamed earlier by Japanese streaming service Abema TV. The teaser is set in Yoshiwara Red-Light District where Tanjiro’s team can be seen on the lookout to destroy all Demons in the area.

Demon Slayer 2 Release Date confirmed

Demon Slayer Season 2 has officially been named ‘Kimetsu no Yaiba: Yuukaku-hen’ in Japan. As of now, the speculations of the release date are all over the fanbase. The Japanese streaming service Ameba uploaded the official trailer for Season 2. Youtube and Reddit have speculated a possible release for Fall 2021, in the window of October to November.

The speculations have turned out to be true. Demon Slayer 2 is all set for an October 2021 comeback. Confirmation about the release date has been revealed on Yahoo! Japan. The official website of Ufotable Animations has updated posters for the Demon Slayer Season 2 along with the official trailer.

A new event has been planned for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba that could lead the way for the anime. The announcement came from Ufotable about the broadcast of Demon Slayer: the Mugen train movie on the Fuji TV station without any cuts scheduled for Saturday, 25th September.

Season 2 has received an anime though the saga has already been covered in the blockbuster film Demon Slayer: Mugen Train. Starting from Sunday, 10 October, the broadcast will be spread over the course of 7 episodes dropping in weekly.

Apart from Season 2 anime dropping in, there will be an hour-long TV special. For the opening, LiSA will work with Akeboshi and the ending Shirogane of the Mugen Train fame. Aimer will take care of the opening and closing themes of the new arch with Zankyo Sanka and Asa ga Kuru.

The Winter calendar is lit! Fans will have to wait for a week only for the narrative arc of the Red Light District to drop in from Sunday 5 December. Both the sagas were revealed in two posters.

The makers have also made a special announcement to commemorate the premiere of Season 2. Tokyo Sky Tree will be illuminated to mark the day.

Should I watch the Demon Salyer movie before Season 2?

We all know that the movie is canonical to the story, the production may want to ensure that all fans can safely follow the new episodes without the risk of missing some links. The film forms the bridge in the story to cover the Mugen arc right before the beginning of Season 2. That follows the reason to watch the Demon Slayer Movie before watching Season 2.

Fans are speculating that the Autumn Anime calendar which is supposed to begin from 1st October may begin with Demon Slayer 2. A likely debut date in Japan on Saturday, 2nd October 2021? 

An October release schedule fits into the logic, that it has to stay competitive. Fall 2021 was expected to invite giants like the finale to Attack on Titan, which has taken the anime world by storm with the first part of its final season. Attack of Titan Final Season Part 2 is scheduled for Winter 2022 according to My Anime List. We are only a month away!

The film ended with record-breaking figures in Japanese theatres, overtaking the legendary Studio Ghibli film Spirited Away. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Train takes up the story after Season 1 ends.

Demon Slayer Season 2 Episodes

Kimetsu No Yaiba season 1 aired on September 28, 2019, and there were 26 episodes. It has been officially announced by Fuji TV that Demon Slayer 2 will be spread across 2 cours. It will be broadcast between October 2021 and March 2022. In other words, 6 months of the broadcast will need at least 24 -26 episodes in Demon Slayer 2.

There may be a possible Demon Slayer Season 3 before the anime series comes to a close. Demon Slayer Season 2 will cover the Red-light district arc from the manga, picking up from the final events of the film.

When and where can I watch Demon Slayer 2?

The weekly episodes will air every Sunday at 11:15 pm, JST on Fuji TV. Additionally, Fuji TV has released a complete September based schedule of Demon Slayer themed events for Japanese fans.

On September 11, it will be the first narrative arc. On September 12 it will be the turn of the Asakusa saga, September 18 the arch of the drum demon, September 19 the saga of Mount Natagumo. On September 23, one can watch the final phase of the season. The event will come to end with the movie Demon Slayer: The Mugen Train planned to broadcast on 25 September.

Demon Slayer Season 2 Plot

The trailer reveals the season will deal with the Yoshiwara Red-light district. The Season picks up after the Mugen train incident. The Hashira is yet again important to the plot of the series. With new suspenseful villains and vicious demons attacking their destination, Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Nezuko and Inosuke find it harder to tell a friend from foe. The Hashira Tengen Usui appears on the roof of the district buildings, and from what one can tell, he will be playing an important role to play in the upcoming season.

The Cast of Demon Slayer Season 2

The trailer of Demon Slayer Season 2 has Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu and Inosuke. Along with the main group of protagonists, additional demons and villains are expected to make an appearance. As of now, the cast of Demon Slayer Season 2 has –

  • Hiro Shimono as Zenitsu Agatsuma
  • Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Inosuke Hashibara

  • Toshihiko Seki as Muzan Kibutsuji

Daki makes an appearance in the trailer but the voice actor for the character has not been revealed yet. In a recent reveal, Miyuki Sawashiro will join the cast in the role of Daki.

Where can I watch Demon Slayer Season 2 English Dub?

Demon Slayer Season 2 is speculated to release sometime in the Fall of 2021. Similar to its earlier Season, the upcoming season is expected to be added to streaming services like Netflix, Crunchyroll, and Funimation.

Following its earlier pattern, makers will release Demon Slayer Season 2 on Crunchyroll, Hulu, and FunimationNow simulcast with a Japanese version. However, recent rumours suggest that Season 2 will not stream on Netflix before 2023. Season 1 premiered on Netflix almost 16 months after the last episode aired on Crunchyroll on 28th September 2019. Season 1 on Netflix got a streaming date on January 22, 2021.
