When will Digimon Survive release finally? Delays, Rumours, Latest E3 Updates are here!

The recent developments at E3 have put a question mark against Digimon Survive release date. The conspicuous absence of the game roadmap has again fuelled rumors of striking delay. Bandai Namco’s focus was more on House of Ash and few more games during E3 2021. The most notable absence was much anticipated announcement Digimon Survive.

With this development, a million-dollar question for its fans- will Digimon Survive finally release in 2021? In October 2020, the producer Kazumasa Habu had informed via tweet that Survive development has got delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With the conclusion of E3 2021 and no press note on Digimon Survive release, it appears that the pandemic has taken its toll on the game.

For all who grew up through the late 90s and 2000s, Digimon was a household name. The animated series for the franchise titled ‘Digimon Adventure’ aired in 1999 and successfully popularised the franchise further.

Digimon or Digital Monster was originally created as a virtual pet that could connect and fight with other digimons. The franchise slowly evolved with an animated series, films, and video games spanning across many genres including RPGs and MMORPGs.

Digimon Survive was first announced in 2018. Following this, there were several delays, but loyal fans kept on waiting for Digimon Survive 2021. Due to the absence of any official news, there were strong rumors that Digimon Survive was canceled.

What platforms will it be available on? Will we finally get to see the game or will there further delays in store?

What do we know about Digimon Survive till now?

Digimon Survive, as the name suggests is a survival strategy role-playing game in which the player is required to make choices. The influence of the choice will be seen impacting the story of the game. The gameplay is designed to make the player consider their choices carefully as a series of wrong choices can lead to character death.

In a multiple-ending design as seen in many famous AAA video games like The Witcher franchise and Mass Effect, different playthrough paths can lead to different trajectories of Digimon evolutions.

Bandai Namco Entertainment America’s Website has a page dedicated to the game and contains the following description:

Digimon Survive sees a brand-new group of teenagers, led by Takuma Momozuka, get lost on a school camping trip, finding them transported to a strange new world of monsters and danger.

As they fight their way back home through an animated world of difficult decisions and deadly battles, players’ choices throughout the game will impact the evolution of their monster allies and the final ending. Battles in the game are fought in 2D, in a more classic SRPG style.

When is Digimon Survive Releasing?

The game development for Digimon Survive has consistently kept updates away from the limelight since its announcement in 2018. The pandemic significantly delayed the development of the game along with additional issues in the game mechanics. Though trailers and teasers have been released, the date has only been pushed back so far.

The 2019 opening movie clip ends with ‘Coming 2020′ but was pushed again to 2021. As of the most anticipated games of the year, heightened further by so many delays, Digimon Survive was expected to make significant announcements in E3 2021.

Fans were disappointed when there were no announcements regarding the game’s release from Bandai Namco at their E3 event despite an earlier note that there are intentions for release in 2021. This brings in the cause for concern and speculations about unknown issues or perhaps further delays.

The popularity of the Digimon franchise pales in comparison with Bandai Namco’s big titles like My Hero One’s Justice, One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows from the anime genre and even bigger titles like Dark Souls and the upcoming giant, Elden Ring.

Fans hoped for a possibility for announcements for Digimon Survive at Bandai Namco’s Digimon News Navigation Event on 18 June 2021. The Official Twitter for Digimon Games had shared the news in 2020 mentioning that updates for that game would be shared in Spring 2021. Neither of the two sources has shared further information.

What platforms will the game be available on?

Digimon Survive was originally announced for release on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and for PC (Microsoft Windows) via platforms like Steam. Without any further updates, it is still assumed that these platforms are confirmed for release, whenever the game actually becomes available.

Characters Confirmed for Digimon Survive

As of now, Bandai Namco and Fandoms Wiki for Digimon Survive have confirmed the following characters for the game:

  • Takuma Momozuka and Agumon
  • Aoi Shibuya and Labramon
  • Ryou Tominaga and Kunemon
  • Saki Kimijima and Floramon
  • Minoru Hyuga and Falcomon
  • Shuuji Kayama and Lopmon
  • Miu Shinonome and Syakomon
  • Kaito Shinonome and Dracmon

After a miss at the Bandai Namco E3 Event as well as the DigiNavi Event on 18th June, fans across social media have burst out in memes expressing their hope as well as disappointment. While there is still hope for the game’s release, fans are also considering if a delayed game is better than a canceled game. Here’s to hoping that Bandai Namco breaks their silence and fans finally hear from the developers.

In the meantime, if you’re looking for more games to check out, do take a look at Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba – Himokami Keppuutan and Persona 6.

Fans are worried about cancellations, indefinite delays from the developers. But there is hope. The official website of DIGIMON SURVIVE mentions the release date as 2021. Hoping that before 2021 ends, Bandai Namco has some good news to share about the much awaited RPG.
