The Official Trailer for Free! The Final Stroke Part 2 is finally out! The anime series has been a fan favourite since 2014 and is finally coming to a grand close after 7 years. The series is loosely based on the light novel series High Speed! by Koji Oji which was published in 2013 that slowly piqued the interest of Kyoto Animation Studio or KyoAni. The anime adaptation was picked up by KyoAni and released as Free! Iwatobi Swim Club as the title of Season 1.
With more friends, allies and rivals, the boys of Iwatobi town grow towards their dream of being professional swimmers. The anime has a rating of 7.6/10 on My Anime List.
Free! The Final Stroke Part 2 Official Trailer
It was in December 2021, the Free! franchise teased a new teaser trailer and a poster for the second Free! The Final Stroke film. Both the films are yet to find a global premiere date.
The teaser trailer and the poster gives out some spoilers but take us down the memory lane of the characters.
Free! The Final Stroke Part 2 Movie Details
Free! is the journey of Haruka Nanase, his childhood friend and rival, Rin Matsuoka, and their friends Makoto Tachibana and Nagisa Hazuki, Rei Ryugazaki who are recruited into the swim club of Iwatobi High School. Rin grows to be Haruka’s rival as he competes on Samezuka Academy’s team.
Season 2 was titled Free! Eternal Summer and released with 13 episodes plus an OVA release. Season 3 was released after a gap of 4 years in 2018. Free! Dive to the future also aired with 12 episodes. Free! The Final Stroke will be the end of the Saga and also perhaps an end to yet another anime of the 2010s.
The events of the movie seem to be a continuation of Free! Season 3 and sets up the final chapter of the saga with the tagline “Let’s go, to the stage of glory”. Haruka leaves for the final showdown in Sydney which was only ever a part of his dreams. The world stage brings bigger challenges with itself including a formidable rival and his biggest competitor to date – Albert Volandel who he will face off in the Sydney Tournament.

When Will Free! The Final Stroke Part 2 Release?
Part 1 of the Free! duology was a Fall 2021 release premiering on September 17th, 2021. Free! The Final Stroke Part 2 will release on April 22, 2022, and bid goodbye to the long-running series. The movie will be a theatrical release in Japan and will also receive a Blu-Ray release that will ship on April 20th.
The international release schedule for the Free! movie duology is yet to be finalized. As for the anime series, the there are three existing seasons that span most of the plot for the story, the tail end of which was reinvented in Free! Road to the World – Dream, which creates the bridge from the anime series to the movies.
Free! The Final Stroke Part 2 Cast
The main cast of the Iwatobi Swim Club should be returning for the closing of the story in this movie release. Additional characters and cast members are yet to be announced. The expected voice cast for the movie includes:

- Tatsuhisa Suzuki as Makoto Tachibana
- Tsubasa Yonaga as Nagisa Hazuki
- Daisuke Hirakawa as Rei Ryugazaki

Eisaki Kawanami will be directing the Free! The Final Stroke and the J-Rock Group OLDCODEX is featuring a new song in the movies.
It would be a good idea to catch up with the Free! franchise anime before both the movies find a release date worldwide. Free! Iwatobi Swim Club anime is currently streaming on both Crunchyroll and Funimation.
Synopsis reads
“Nanase Haruka loved to be in the water – loved swimming. In elementary school, Nanase Haruka, Tachibana Makoto, Matsuoka Rin, and Hazuki Nagisa attended the same swimming class together. Time passed, and as Haruka was living an uneventful high school life, he suddenly encountered Rin again. Rin challenged Haruka to a race and showed him how much stronger he had become. Soon enough, Makoto and Nagisa also rejoined the group, and along with a new classmate, Ryugazaki Rei, they established the Iwatobi High School Swimming Club.”
