What is The Requim of the Rose King About?
The Crown of England becomes a matter of contention as the War of the Roses is waged. The House of Yorks is set up against the House of Lancaster as the Duke of York strives to dethrone King Henry VI to take the title for himself.
The Duke witnesses the birth of his child soon after. This child named Richard Plantagenet grows to the ill favour of his mother who does not accept or acknowledge his existence as an intersex person. He develops a complicated relationship with his body, often riddled with hate and confusion, which goes to dominate his identity through the course of the story.
He grapples to create a life for himself, moving forward making friends and foes as he tries to tackle the threat of enemies in his visions of Joan of Arc, England’s villain. He homes to be at peace with himself by assisting his father’s aspirations along with his own dream of the throne.
The story is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s play Richard III. The opening theme, ‘I’m Obsessed with Roses’ is performed by Makoto Furukawa and the ending theme ‘Nightmare’ is performed by Zaq.
What will be Requiem of the Rose King release date?
Different channels have scheduled the airing of the premiere of The Requiem of the Rose King. The premiere was first aired on Tokyo MX, Sun TV and KBS Kyoto on January 9th. BS11 will be airing the first episode on January 11th.
The anime will air in two consecutive cours that will span across half the year. Each cour will have 10-14 episodes that will adapt parts of the manga. The original release of the Requiem of the Rose King was supposed to be in July 2021 but was unfortunately delayed.

Currently, Tokyo MX, BS11, Sun TV and KBS Kyoto have scheduled the airing of the anime. Additionally, Funimation has also announced a simulcast for the anime in the Winter 2022 anime season, meaning all the episodes will gradually become available on the platform!

Kentaro Suzuki is the director. Hiroki Uchida is the scriptwriter and supervisor. Chikara Hashizunme is working with character creation, Kentoaro Izumi is the art director, Mayumi Tanahashi is in-charge of colour design, Akihiro Takahashi is the director of photography, Yoshikazu Iwanami is the audio director and Kou Otani is the music composer. Lantis will be producing music for the anime series.
The series also has a spinoff manga along with a drama CD collection that was inspired by the manga.
