In a much-awaited announcement, Makoto Yukimura revealed that Vinland Saga Season 2 is in production. The announcement was made on the second anniversary of the anime’s release and fans cannot hold it in. Yukimura took to Twitter to make the announcement on Wednesday along with a teaser trailer of the new season. The Vinland Saga season 2 trailer gave a glimpse into snippets from the upcoming episodes. He also stated that illness and the pandemic had taken up a lot of time but he is glad to be able to make this return.
It is going to be almost a year and fans have not heard of much progress. But there has been news from the character designer Takahiko Aburu who tweeted asking fans to be bit more patient
“It’s been a long time since we announced the second season. We continue to progress day by day with the production of the anime, so we appreciate your patience again for a bit'”.
Vinland Saga was first serialized in 2005 in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine before moving to Monthly Afternoon. The manga series has 183 published chapters and 24 tankobon volumes. 25th volume released on July 21, 2021. Makoto Yukimura had also announced that the Vinland Saga manga is in its final arc and the last Volume 26 will come out in the second half of 2022. Volume 26 of the manga will cover 8 chapters.
The series has accolades to its name including a crossover chapter with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. The first season of the anime aired in 2019 and has a rating of 8.8/10 on IMDb and 8.7/10 on MAL.

What is Vinland Saga about?
Vinland Saga derives its story from myths and tales of the old and is set in the 11th Century. It takes up the rule of Vikings and Kings and seems loosely based on true historical events. The Danish King Sweyn Forkbeard occupies a majority of English land and as he nears his death, his sons fight for succession to the throne. Thors, Helga, and their son Thorfinn live peacefully in Iceland. What they don’t anticipate is that Thors’ former comrade Floki, a Jomsviking arrives to enlist Thors in the war again, with a true movie to kill him for desertion years ago.
Thorfinn wishes to see Vinland. Aboard the ship, the conspiracy to kill Thors unfolds. Thorfinn joins the Askeladd, Jomsvikings’s fellow conspirator to avenge his father. Thus begins his journey on a vengeful path, fighting wars between the Vikings and eventually wanting to settle down peacefully. A saga of valour, myths, and growth, Vinland Saga creates a capturing story master-crafted for all its fans.
Which Manga Volumes Will Vinland Saga 2 Cover?
Season 1 had adapted from volume 1 to volume 8 of manga. It is expected that Vinland Saga 2 will cover the entire farm arc. Hence it will stretch from volume 9 and end on volume 14, the whole farm arc.

Vinland Saga Season 1 of the anime had 24 episodes that aired from July to December 2019. Vinland Saga Season 2 will be returning soon, hopefully taking off from where Season 1 left. There are further announcements to come on July 26 2021 but it is uncertain whether the announcements pertain to the anime or the manga. The latter is currently in its final saga but the end to it does not seem to be coming anytime soon.

How many episodes will Vinland Saga 2 have?
Vinland Saga Season 2 should have between 22 and 24 episodes, similar to Season 1. The farm arc is far too large for a single cour season. It’s almost as long as the material the first season used. That’s why the second season should get close to the same number of episodes as the first season.
Fortunately, we have some news on Vinland Saga 2 episodes. In an interview with Hiroya Hasegawa, the animation producer of Vinland Saga 2, the information got revealed. He is talking about 48 episodes of Vinland Saga. In other words, there should be 24 episodes in Vinland Saga Season 2 since Season 1 had 24 episodes.
Vinland Saga 2 having 24 episodes will be welcome news, especially the thought to download 24 instead of the usual 12. Also, after the second season, there should be enough material to make Vinland Saga season 3 to bet on the same duration again. Now, there remains a long wait for a torturous January 2023.
When is Vinland Saga Season 2 release date?
The manga currently has enough source material to fuel another two seasons of the anime. That said, the announcement of production was made on July 7, 2021. Assuming that this means production began sometime earlier this year, Vinland Saga Season 2 may not be making an appearance in 2021. WIT Studios have not made any announcements either. They are the ones behind the first three seasons of Attack on Titan.
Assuming that there were delays due to the pandemic as for The Great Pretender Season 2 by the same studio, Vinland Saga Season 2 release date should happen in the second half of 2022. The assumption is based on the lifecycle of an anime in making. On average, once a new season gets announced, the release usually takes around 12 to 18 months. On the basis of this, it was speculated that Vinland Saga Season 2 episode 1 will premiere in the Summer Calendar 2022 lineup, possibly in July 2022.
While it is difficult to designate a release window, we all were expecting an official announcement. The popularity and critical acclaim of the series have resulted in a lot of enthusiasm around its release.

Where can I watch Vinland Saga Dub?
Vinland Saga had been available in Japanese audio with different languages for subtitles for the longest time. A recent announcement revealed that Vinland Saga will be getting a Blu-Ray release with both Japanese and English audio. Sentai Filmworks has shared the arrival of the English Dub for the anime Summer 2021, specifically August 31, 2021.
Season 1 is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. It is likely that the series will drop in for its second season on Prime Video in the United States. Release dates have not yet been officially confirmed.
