Crunchyroll’s 2022 summer schedule, Rent-A-Girfriend Season 2 came to an end with Episode 12 broadcast on Friday, September 16th. The end of the episode did not surprise the fans with the announcement of the renewal of the anime. A short teaser trailer with characters Chizuru Mizuhara, Mami-chan, Rika, and Sumi giving the green light was revealed. Rent-A-Girlfriend Season 3 was officially confirmed and rumored to return in 2023! A new teaser for the anime was released on the official website of the anime. This will be one of the many titles that are set for a return next year.
The series by Reiji Miyajima began in 2017 with its serialization in Kodansha’s Shonen Magazine. The manga is currently ongoing and currently has 24 volumes. The first season of the anime aired in 2020 and is rated 7.3/10 on My Anime List!

What is Rent-A-Girlfriend About?
The story revolves around Kazuya Kinoshita, a 20-year-old college student whose girlfriend breaks up with him without any notice. Heartbroken and upset, he decides to use an online dating app called which allows one to rent a girlfriend. Enter Chizuru Mizuhara, a beautiful girl who manages to make Kazuya feel good about dating again. She appears to be warm, kind and affectionate and gains Kazuya’s interest.
However, Kazuya comes across similar praising reviews for Chizuru on the app and begins to feel that she only put up an act in front of him to please him for her benefit. He leaves her with a poor rating on the app and gets blasted by her for his hypocrisy upon which he realizes that Chizuru is quite brash and mean. Unfortunately, news of his grandmother’s collapse comes in and he rushes to see her with Chizuru accompanying him.
His grandmother takes a liking to her upon meeting them which leads to Kazuya and Chizuru fake dating to keep up the act around friends and family. Things begin to get more complicated as more girls from the app begin to get added to the equation.
The series is a perfect fake dating trope anime that adds romance, a slice of life and comedy to the mix. The first season of the anime aired in July 2020 and had 12 episodes. The adaptation of the anime was under TMS Entertainment.
What will be Rent-A-Girlfriend Season 3 plot?
Rent-A-Girlfriend Season 1 came to an end with the grand confession from Kazuya. He had announced that he wants Chizuru as a real girlfriend which is where the season decides to leave the story. For a manga parallel, the last episode, Episode 12 ‘Confession and Girlfriend’ stopped at the end of Volume 6 take a little from the beginning of Volume 7.
Now the unfortunate bit is that Kazuya decides to pull a reverse and go back on his confession by putting up excuses. Rent-A-Girlfriend Season 2 opened with this commotion followed by more trainwrecks caused by Kazuya’s immaturity. This season will also highlight more of Chizuru’s emotions and how she actually has feelings for him.
The addition of Sumi and Ruka creates a rather complicated dating web that leaves all of them confused and second-guessing. The coming season will also have Mizuhara’s story arc in focus with the backstory of why she decided to be on the Diamond App in the first place.
