Rumbling Rumbling It’s Coming! Will An Attack on Titan Movie End the Saga of Paradise Island? The Battle Ends in 2022!

Attack on Titan has become one of the biggest anime releases in the last few years. The question of an Attack on Titan Movie release is only coming up because of how the animation of the final season is progressing. Hajime Isayama’s masterpiece is coming to an end but it is doubtful if the end will be with the anime series.

Attack on Titan began as Hajime Isayama’s series that was serialized in Kodansha’s Besstasu Shonen Magazine from 2009 to 2021. After an exceptional 12-year-run, the manga ended in April 2021. There are currently 34 tankonbon volumes of the same with over 100 million copies in circulation!

Attack on Titan Final Season Part 1 is rated 9/10 on My Anime List as well as IMDb!

Attack on Titan Final Season Till Now

*Spoilers Ahead*

Attack on Titan Part 1 ended with the Marleyan invasion with Reiner and Colt arriving as Pieck places Eren in the perfect spot for an ambush. Eren transforms into a titan and dares Reiner to come down and fight him. The final battle begins where the Colossal Titan first bashed down the walls and let the titans in – Shiganshina District. The first part of the final season ends with Zeke successfully blowing up Levi and leaving him for the dead to meet Eren back in Shiganshina.

Attack on Titan Final Season Part 2 has seen the rise of the Jaegerists and the death of a few more characters. Eren and Zeke revisit Eren’s memories and see Grisha’s fall to Eren’s will. The powers of the Attack Titan finally become known to Zeke who still believes he is in control till Eren turns the Founder Ymir to go against the Will of the Royal Blood and stand up for herself. Eren succeeds and triggers the Rumbling, breaking free millions of Titans in the walls while turning into the Founder himself.

Annie breaks free from her hardened shell and rejoins Mikasa, Jean and Armin. Hange tends to a wounded Levi, a man who refuses to die. Pieck and Magath from the Marleyan Army join them as they move to stop Eren’s destruction.

Why Are There Talks of an Attack on Titan Movie?

The release of a potential Attack on Titan Movie has become a possibility for all the right reasons in recent weeks. No one is referring to the live-action Attack on Titan Movie that tried to bring Isayama’s world to life but failed quite miserably. The upcoming Attack on Titan movie has a shot at covering the conclusion of this epic saga and there are a good number of reasons for it.

MAPPA, also known for Jujutsu Kaisen and the upcoming Chainsaw Man anime adaptation, is animating Attack on Titan Final Season and has taken the role very seriously. The Final Season Part 2 has registered 12 episodes that should be released, making the final season 28 episodes long, counting the 16 episodes from Part 1.

This season has seen MAPPA dedicate one episode per chapter! As meticulous as that is, this also implies that the last 9.5 chapters will not be a part of the anime series itself. The last episode of the season will adapt Chapter 130 of the manga, leaving the animation till Chapter 139.5 up to a movie! A 2.5-hour movie would appropriately cover the rest of the manga without rushing or skipping over important parts.

When Will the Attack on Titan Movie Release?

The current and final season of Attack on Titan will wrap up within 3 more episodes. Ideally, the day of the release of the last episode should bring in announcements of the movie that is to be released. It would actually be fair to expect a movie instead of a longer final episode, owing to the amount of material that remains to be adapted.

There are also talks of Attack on Titan’s alternate ending which the adaptation may or may not entertain. The best possible opportunity of release will be Summer 2022/ Fall 2022 and not delaying the release to 2023. Fans who have been following the anime since its beginning have already waited 9 years to see the end of it and an Attack on Titan Movie may do the perfect job.

Attack on Titan Movie Cast

The main cast of the anime is expected to continue appearing in the potential upcoming movie. If the anime ends where it is expected to end, the final movie will cover the full brunt of that the Rumbling will unleash on the world, wiping out countries at a time. The finale should include:

  • Yuki Kaji as Eren Jaeger
  • Maria Inoue as Armin Arlert
  • Yui Ishikawa as Mikasa Ackermann
  • Yoshimasa Hosoya as Reiner Braun
  • Hiro Shimono as Connie Springer
  • Kisho Taniyama as Jean Kiristein
  • Hiroshi Kamiya as Levi Ackermann
  • Romi Park as Hange Zoe
  • Yu Shimamura as Annie Leonhart
  • Takehito Koyasu as Zeke Jaeger

FAQs – Attack on Titan Movie Edition

Q. Will there be an AOT 5?

A. A potential Attack on Titan Season 5 seems to be a difficult bid. While the second part of the final season of the anime does seem to be ending with about 9-10 chapters left to adapt, an Attack on Titan movie would be a better bid than stretching it to another season with 10 more episodes.

Q. Will Attack on Titan movie anime have a different ending than the manga?

A. The ending of Attack on Titan has mixed reactions from fans. While one part found the end fitting, the others have a range of problems with how the manga has ended this epic saga. There have been Reddit threads discussing, proposing and even demanding that the end of the anime adaptation be changed. That said, the producers at MAPPA have not let us in on any such update yet.

If Attack on Titan had to have an alternate ending, it would be thoroughly interesting to see which characters would have a different fate and if the position of the Eldians would change at all in this situation. This could very well be adapted into the Attack on Titan Movie.
